Printing on Windows

Printing to CS printers on Windows OS

by: Hanz Makmur modified: Jan 16, 2026

NOTE: Jan 16, 2026. This is a new printing system. The older method still works, and we are in a transition.
As of the Spring semester of 2026, the CS department has joined the University PaperCut printing system. This system is centralized and run by OIT. This new system simplifies the complicated steps by installing one software known as  Papercut Mobility Print software.
When installing the software, make sure you pick these Computer Science printers.
Important:
  • To set up a new printer, and to print to CS printers, your computer must be connected to RUNet, RUWireless Secure, or University VPN. You may be asked to authenticate with your NetID credentials.
  • When printing, make sure you pick up your printout right away. This new system does not print a separator banner page, so other users could mistakenly pick up your printout.
  • All our printers are accessible to everyone who has access to the room where the printer is located.

Below are the old steps that should no longer be followed to set up your printers on your notebook. It is left for reference only.
OLD — Setup info
In the CS Department, our printing systems have the following features.
    • All print jobs must go through a print server known as printserver.cs.rutgers.edu
    • Jobs can be printed only from inside RUNet or using a VPN.
    • Jobs must be printed using Postscript driver.
    •

Below are steps to prepare your computer to print to CS printers.

Step 1. Install Postscript drivers on your Windows OS.

Postscript driver is not installed by default. If you have not done so, please follow Installing Universal Postscript Driver on WindowsOS

Step 2. Set up printer queue(s).

The print server will accept two supported printing methods from WindowsOS. You may pick either method.

Step 3. Print Test Page

Except for the poster printer, artisan, after setting up your printer driver, please send one simple test page to the printer to ensure your setup is correct before sending a large job.

Step 4. Check your print jobs

Ensure the jobs have left your computer’s local print queue. Once it leaves your computer, open a browser to printserver.cs.rutgers.edu

For more info, see the list of Computer Science Public Printers page.
